Martyn White Flicking Feathers
Добавлен 14 апр 2010
The fly tying of a Scottish born, global angler. Currently living in Japan and throwing flies at anything that swims. The fly tying videos complement my blog www.flickingfeathers.blogspot.com and a Japan angling visitors site, I co run. Tokyo fly fishing and country club.
I just enjoy helping others, whether new to the sport or more experienced whether it's tips for carp on the fly or fly tying techniques and patterns.

Fly Tying: An Articulated Craft Fur Diver with Martyn White
This foam headed diver is a quick alternative to a deer hair Dahlberg diver. I see this pattern as essentially a smallmouth bass fly, but it can be tied in a range of sizes and colours to target other species from perch to muskie in fresh water and all manner of saltwater gamefish too.

Fly Tying: Peter Morse's Gurgle Pop with Martyn White
Просмотров 675Месяц назад
Morsie's gurgle pop is a deceptively simple pattern that really catches fish in situations where the bait is small or a more subtle popper is required. It's very well designed with nothing impedeing the hook gap, which is often a problem with top water flies and being made from only a couple of materials, it's quick, cheap, easily replaceable and well worth carrying in your box whether fishing ...
Fly Tying: A Sheet foam Slider with Martyn White
Просмотров 588Месяц назад
This little slider offers a wonderful, subtle topwater presentation. You can fish it more aggressively for a more Dahlberg Diver type action, but it really excells when waked around schools of bait or slithered through weeds and over structure. In many waters these patterns will outfish noisier poppers and bugs, especially on calm days and they are well worth keeping in your box. Head to www.pa...

The Sneaky Pete is a fantastic fish catcher and works for all the black bass and panfish. This is a bit of a variation on the original cork bug, a bit beefed up but just as good as the original. Carp On The Fly Early Season Mulberry Feeders

A short carp fly fishing session in Japan. Conditions were great with the and I was surprised to find the mulberries dropping into the river earlier than usual. Hi Martyn, great video thanks. I've just subscribed. I hadn't seen the ethafoam ball tied that way before. Do you think there are any pros / cons in the ball type pattern like this as opposed to the top hat design where the foam seems to sit right down in the surface film?
@@mikekennedy4549 I think this is more durable and easier to see. I don't really see a downside to this style as the body of the fly is still in/just on the underside of the surface film. Its
@@FlickingFeathers Thanks for replying.. Many years ago when I tied flies (not your quality), I used to tie one pattern with the polystyrene ball on the top middle of the shank so the fly was horizontal and for some reason this worked really well. I used to tie Do you tie any commercially?
I fish a lot of wire for toothy fish. I’ve adopted the improved overhand loop knot at the fly end and the perfection loop at the line end. Both of those leave the tag ends facing away from the direction of stripping. I’ve found that greatly reduces the amount of sea grass, etc. that gets fouled on the wire knots.
Sensacional o seu trabalho.

This pattern is one of the most effective in my fly box. Tied size 20 represents the Trico / Gnats extremely well. So far i have been fishing it mornings since early Spring into Summer, could be very effective year round, don't know yet. Top Notch Thanks for the lesson.
It’s was very useful to see that tippet ring and how you tied it in place . A beautifully tied fly. Thank you for sharing
@@daverichards6557 thank you
Hey, Martyn. Great video, and great rendition of the Rhody Flatwing. I knew Bill Peabody. He was an absolute gentleman and as a fly tier probably didn’t get the recognition he deserved in his day. I’m glad people like you are keeping his work alive for the times. He was also very generous. He gave me, among other things, an industrial-size spool of his pearl Bodi Braid. If you give me your mailing address in Japan I’d be happy to send you some. Take care.
@@masterthecast3441 thanks and I'm glad you enjoyed the video! I have a bulk spool of body braid here already, but thank you for the kind offer. All the best Martyn
See you’ve not lost yer Ayrshire twang, Naj. Think this size flea is ideal for pike too
Morsie is a great fly fisherman as well
Indeed.
That'll tease the redfish here in Texas, Thanks Martyn
Look forward to hearing how you go on them with it.
Tie it in black and purple , canal, spillway or night bridge juvy tarpon will eat that for sure
Definitely works in blurple
Great pattern, I'm going to use that plastic bag trick. Thank you.
It's a useful trick once you get used to it.
Great pattern. LOVE working rabbit strips into my flies and always good to see a twist on a classic.
I agree, so much extra movement
I can tie that one also
It's quite simple to tie
Very nice and beautiful
Thank you
Nice tie m8, what would you fish that for Jack's etc?
Anything that eats on top will probably have a go at it. Tied on the stinger hook it's more fresh water like largemouth bass. For mangrove jacks etc. I'd put it on an SL12 or similar.
Clean, tough, pretty, and effective !!! Thanks 😁
Thanks!
Could you use the liquid fusion under the popper head for saltwater version??
Yeah, it's probably the best allround coating for foam flies in fresh & salt
Do you fish the quarry ville pool or the cains river?
I live in Japan.
A great looking pattern. Should work well for coho and sea run cutthroat trout on the coat of BC. 👍👍👍👍
I'm sure it will
So shiny
Great video Sir!
Thank you
Great job Martyn. That's a cool pattern, sort of looks squid like with that front hackle.
Thanks Joe, I think you're right. it'd probalbly make a nice squid immitation fished near the surface over a rip
One of the easiest and best looking patterns I’ve seen! Great job.
Thanks!
Broken rod tip, good excuse to call Paul and get a shiny new HT
Not with the current exchange rates... Luckily I have a back up.
Horrible video. You're tying a knot outside of camera view. Brilliant.
Thanks for the feedback. Feel free to do a better one.
Great, i love carp videos.

Where do you buy the dye Martin?
Just depends on where I'm buying things from at the time. Any veniard stockist will be able to get it for you
My top stillwater fly,sz14/16 any colour you want as long as it's black, add a touch of floatant cast it in and just let it drift on the breeze and watch for the take.Tight lines 🏴.
